A few months back I was looking for assistance with reducing clutter and creating a more functional design in my home. I learned through Facebook that a friend from high school had started her own business and decided to give her a call. I am delighted to feature her on the blog today! Her tips have been life-changing for my family and I know they will help you too!

1. Create a Lunch Packing Zone

Clear the drawer, cabinet, and counter space closest to the fridge. In this area, store not only lunch boxes and thermoses, but all other lunch supplies you use daily such as plastic zipper bags, reusable lunch containers, and even a sharpie for those sweet handwritten napkin notes! Bins in the fridge keep lunch items gathered together and allow you to quickly pull everything out at once.

2. Prepare for Tomorrow, Today

Do as much as you can the night before! Lay out tomorrow’s clothes and accessories before bed, or better yet, have your children pick out this week’s clothes on Sunday. Make lunches, sign field trip slips, and hang backpacks on hooks by the door. I even encourage the kids to set the breakfast table after dinner to reduce time spent in the morning arguing over who gets the purple plate!

3. Establish a Homework Headquarters

Simplify their after school routine by keeping homework supplies organized and accessible. If desk space is limited or your kids prefer working at the kitchen table while you prepare dinner, a rolling utility cart is the perfect mobile homework station! Small buckets and baskets keep supplies within reach while kids roll to their favorite spot. Include a monthly calendar to help children manage homework and other project deadlines.

4. Cut the Paper Clutter

Back-to-school doesn’t have to mean back-to-piles! Create a family command center to help manage the loads of artwork, homework, field trip slips, teacher notes, and everything in between. A wall-mounted vertical paper sorter provides a slot for each family member’s important papers and helps keep counter tops clear. Use a large hanging calendar to document important dates on invitations and announcements as they come through the door, then toss the unnecessary paper.
