I told myself that starting today I will no longer use time as an excuse. We’ve all heard it said before that people make time for the things that are important to them. Most days I feel as though I did not accomplish the things that I really wanted to. I’ve heard myself say for years “I just don’t have enough time for that”. I realized that I am the only person that can change this, so I am starting today. I’m tired of justifying why I don’t have time to do the things I really love and enjoy. The most important difference for this year is that I have surrendered my plans to God. I have chosen to be intentional about what my time, talents and treasure are used for. This year I plan to be Kingdom Focused.

Proverbs 16:9 “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord determines his steps.”

Here are four tips that I hope will help you this year as you plan to lean in and get closer to God.

Be more purposeful in praying about what you add to your calendar.

Before adding anything to my calendar and before making commitments to others I ask myself these questions. If the answer is no to any of these questions then I choose not to participate.

– Will this strengthen relationships with my family and friends?
– Will participating allow me to be a good steward with the resources God has provided me?
– Does this deepen my relationship with God?

Utilize tools that will help you with time management.

For the past several years I have been using the Cozi Family Calendar to keep track of our schedules. This app allows me to manage the schedule for my entire family of five. Whether you choose to use an electronic or paper calendar doesn’t matter. Find what works best for you and stick with it.

Maintain focus with an accountability partner.

I can tell you firsthand that it helps to have someone encouraging you and helping you on your faith journey. Find someone that is willing to walk alongside you and make time in your schedule for it.

Focus on quality of quantity

Every moment of every day does not have to be filled with an activity or event. It’s important to leave room for rest in our calendars. Don’t miss out on these special moments because you have an overly packed day planner! Give yourself permission to be content with a less is more approach to your schedule.

How do you make time for the important stuff? I look forward to hearing what works for you!

In Truth,
Sheena
